World Contraception Day 2012
Bayer HealthCare Pakistan celebrates World Contraception Day in seven major cities, to raise awareness about contraception amongst HealthCare Professionals

[Pakistan, September 26th, 2012] - World Contraception Day (WCD) is a Worldwide Campaign that takes place on September 26th every year, the annual worldwide campaign centers around a vision for “a world where every pregnancy is wanted”. Launched in 2007, its mission is to improve awareness about contraception and its various methods to enable married people to make informed decisions about family planning. Now in its sixth year, WCD is celebrated in about 70 countries worldwide and in 2011 alone, the campaign was able to reach 370 million people.
Bayer HealthCare Pakistan celebrated ‘World Contraception Day’ by organizing a series of symposiums in seven major cities (Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Multan, Hyderabad and Peshawar) to raise awareness about contraception amongst the married couples in Pakistan. Countries around the world organize events to mark World Contraception Day and to demonstrate their commitment to raise awareness on contraception and improving education regarding Women HealthCare.

The objective of these symposiums was to improve awareness on various kinds of contraceptive methods and to facilitate open discussions amongst KOL's. Country’s leading consultant Obstetricians & Gynecologists were invited as key note speakers providing balanced information and tailored resources. These leading consultants were specially invited by Bayer HealthCare Pakistan to enlighten the audience on the topic of contraception.

HealthCare Professionals emphasized that the need for contraceptive education is much needed as people still mistakenly consider the withdrawal method to be a reliable contraceptive option. Yet we are still seeing so many people rely on emergency contraception and drastic measures such as abortion.

Bayer HealthCare Pakistan continued their campaign represented by locally created characters named Mr. and Mrs. Mansu to illustrate the campaign to help spread awareness among married couples. Mr. and Mrs. Mansu (MianMansu and Begum Mansu); their names are derived by the term “Mansuba” in Urdu language which means “planning”. These characters helped in raising and spreading awareness about world contraception day to the married Couples in Pakistan.

They are Iconic representations of a very healthy, happy, balanced married and social life, because they plan their lives and guide people around them on how to balance their lives by providing unbiased information about contraception in order to prevent any unplanned pregnancy. They help in illustrating the WCD campaign message “ YOUR FUTURE, YOUR CHOICE, YOUR CONTRACEPTION” to married couples .Every married couple should be aware of the choices they have or should take for their future to be.

This year’s campaign’s objectives of ‘World Contraception Day’ is to inform married couples of various choices they have and can take in terms of contraception; planning their lives ahead. Our focus is to provide married couples with unbiased and accurate information about contraception in order to prevent an unplanned pregnancy or Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).

“Every woman should take their future into their own hands especially beginning today on World Contraception Day. Talking to your partner and to your doctor about suitable contraceptive method that would complement your lifestyle and future plans,“ urge Healthcare Professionals
