Ufone equips SOS village Lahore with a Gymnasium

Islamabad, August 7, 2013: #Ufone – the most popular telecom company of Pakistan, has chosen SOS village Lahore as the winner of its ‘Ufone-Friends of the Environment’ competition. This was announced in the event held on Wednesday at #SOS #Village Ferozepur Road, #Lahore. The competition was launched in September last year to engage and instill healthy environment practices in the Children of 10 SOS villages across #Paksitan.

Children of 10 SOS villages across the country were asked to come up with environment friendly slogans / taglines with illustrations and from each SOS village the best entries were chosen by the SOS staff and forwarded to Ufone for final selection of the winner.

The winning SOS village in Lahore won a completely equipped gymnasium as a prize. The equipment includes 50 gymnastic uniforms, 2 spring boards; 5 gymnastic sets comprising of hand grip, gym ball, gloves, skipping rope, exercise ball etc; 10 floor mats, monkey bars; full length bars; 2 treadmills, exercise cycle; 4 sit a boards; music system etc.

Speaking about the competition Chief Marketing Officer Ufone Akbar Khan said, “This activity was a part of our CSR program that was envisioned by the late Hira Naeem Siddiqi our beloved colleague who lost her life in a car accident earlier this year. I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to her caring and devoted nature to help those in need. The objective of this activity was to educate the children about the importance of a healthy environment and by association educate a large chunk of society. We were really pleased to see the enthusiastic participation by all SOS villages and we arethankful to its management for providing us the opportunity to collaborate with them.”

Director SOS village Ms. Almas Butt expressing her thoughts about the competition said, “I think this was a great initiative by Ufone and am thankful towards them for donating the gymnasium for our students,most importantly Ufone has helped motivate the children to earn the gym  for themselves while educating them about key environmental issues. We really appreciate Ufone’s support to us and hope that other companies will also follow their footsteps to encourage the youngsters of our country.”

The event included briefing on the activity and prize distribution ceremony in which children of SOS village were given goody bags. Later the media also got a chance to interact with the children.
