LG 2012 Home Entertainment Products Honored by IDEA® for Design
Breakthroughs
Karachi, July
03, 2012
– Three LG Electronics (LG) products received accolades from the International
Design Excellence Awards (IDEA®), the world’s premier product de-sign
competition. LG’s 55-inch OLED TV received a Silver award from the IDEA jury
and a Bronze went to LG’s CINEMA 3D Smart TV with Magic Remote Control. The
third award, a Silver, went to an LG concept product. The IDEA wins follow in
the heels of the 12 LG products earlier this year that earned red dot design
awards and the 14 that won iF awards, making LG one of the most recognized
consumer electronics and appliance companies this design season.
LG’s 55-inch
OLED TV (Silver)
The world’s
largest and slimmest 55-inch OLED TV from LG was first showcased at CES where
it won the Best of the Best CES 2012 award and was also selected by CNET as the
Best
of Show. At the World IT Show (WIS) in Seoul, it received the Republic of
Korea Presidential Award for Multimedia Technology.

With its 4mm
Paper Slim design and light 10kg weight utilizing carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer
(CFRP) and WRGB technology, LG’s OLED TV boasts 4-Color Pixels and a Color
Refiner, for the most consistent, natural and accurate picture. LG’s 4-Color
Pixel technology relies on a white sub-pixel to perfect the color output. This
innovative WRGB technology sets LG’s OLED TV apart from conventional
three-color RGB sys-tems. Because it requires fewer layers, it is also the
primary reason LG was able to re-duce the TV’s thickness and weight. The CFRP
that LG utilizes for the casing is a supe-rior, high-quality material more
commonly found in race cars and aircraft. The design of the TV ultimately aims
to maximize the total immersion of the viewer, hence the mini-mized bezel.
Likewise, the harmony of technology and design fits well with virtually any
interior décor.
LG’s LM8600
CINEMA 3D Smart TV with Magic Remote (Bronze)
The LM8600 is
one of several innovative products in LG’s new CINEMA 3D Smart TV 2012 lineup
to earn considerable praise. The LM8600 incorporates new 3D technology this
year, as well as enhanced Smart TV functions. It also features LG’s much
vaunted CINEMA SCREEN Design. A barely visible bezel completes the elegant
design, and the TV has garnered much attention for its ability to complement
any interior space in both the home and office. With little in the way of
physical obstruction, CINEMA SCREEN Design allows for a more immersive 3D
viewing experience. The LM8600 received a red dot design award in March.
LG’s new
Magic Remote brings a much desired boost to user convenience through its innovative
control modes as well as its ergonomic design. The smooth, curved shape
accommodates the viewer’s grip while its new control modes – Voice, Wheel,
Pointing and Gesture – have replaced conventional push buttons with a set of
cleverly designed controls that are intuitive and extremely user-friendly. LG
has evolved the traditional remote control and has made Magic Remote part of
the TV viewing experience.
