Karachi - In what is being hailed as a landmark victory for packaged milk in Pakistan, the Lahore High Court has dismissed a petition against packaged milk companies, which wrongfully alleged that they were adulterating their products by using harmful contaminants.
Syed Yawar Ali, Chairman Pakistan Dairy Association, addressed an audience of journalists at the Lahore Press Club, elaborating upon details of the judgement. He said that Honourable Judge Ch. Muhammad Tariq dismissed the petition against packaged milk companies, stating in his written judgement that “The epitome of the whole discussion is that packed milk is good. According to the reports of various laboratories, nothing injurious to human health has been found in the packed milk. As a consequence, this writ petition has no force, hence dismissed”.
The judgement also sheds light on tests conducted on samples of packaged milk by leading local and international laboratories. The details of the test report submitted by Eurofins Global Control Laboratory, a reputable German laboratory, were also provided and categorically gave packaged milk a clean bill of health, stating that the submitted milk samples were fit for human consumption. Samples were also dispatched to 4 local laboratories who also concluded that the milk contained no such substance that could be termed as being hazardous to human health.
Syed Yawar Ali spoke further on the commitment of PDA to the people of Pakistan, stating that between the members of Pakistan Dairy Association they possessed more than 150 years of experience of operating in the dairy industry. By using state of the art technology and stringent quality checks, the companies ensured that packaged milk was passed through numerous tests before it was processed and packaged for the public’s use. Given the nutritional significance of milk as part of a healthy diet, it was unfortunate that allegations of adulteration were levelled against the milk companies, but PDA would facilitate special tours to its milk collection centres so that the public could be fully confident that packaged milk was pure and free from any impurities.
